Bhubaneswar-Rangeilunda (Berhampur) flight service begins

Bhubaneswar: Flight service between Bhubaneswar and Rangeilunda (Berhampur) commenced today as Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik inaugurated it at the Biju Patnaik International Airport here.

In order to increase air connectivity from state capital to other cities and areas, the Government of Odisha has started the fully state-sponsored flight operation.

It will reduce the travel time between the Temple City and the Silk City by an hour. With this, the long-standing demand for flight operation from and to Rangeilunda has been fulfilled.

IndiaOne Air airline will operate the non-scheduled flight service using a 9-seater aircraft.

Earlier, Rangeilunda Airstrip was used only on handful occasions for flight operations during the arrival of dignitaries.

The Rangeilunda airstrip has been included under Udaan and Rural Connectivity scheme of the Ministry of Civil Aviation. The flights will be operated from the airstrip in the first phase. With expansion and development of the airstrip, the air traffic will be given more importance in second and third phase in coming days, said State Commerce and Transport Principal Secretary Usha Padhee.
