Bhubaneswar: Teacher dies after falling from engineering college roof, kin accuse HOD of killing her

Bhubaneswar: An assistant teacher of a private engineering college on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar under Tamando police limits died today as she had sustained critical injuries after falling from the roof of the educational institution on June 11.

The deceased was identified as Barsha Mishra (23). She hailed from Keonjhar district and was working as an assistant teacher in the computer science department of the private engineering college.

After being injured, she was admitted to AIIMS Bhubaneswar and later shifted to a private hospital as her condition deteriorated. Unfortunately, she breathed her last during treatment.

On the other hand, Barsha’s family members have lodged a complaint with the Tamando police alleging that a woman Assistant Professor of the college, who is the HOD of computer science department, pushed her from the balcony of the college, which eventually resulted in her death.

The accused allegedly used to harass Barsha mentally and physically.

On June 10, Barsha messaged the professor informing the latter that she was going to a hospital to meet her mother. Next day, the HOD abused Barsha for being absent and threatened her to inform the college management about her absence, the deceased’s brother mentioned in the complaint.

The professor then took Barsha to the balcony and asked her for help in household chores by threatening her to complain against her before the college authorities. As Barsha refused to do so, the HOD pushed her from the balcony, the deceased’s brother added.

Police have started an investigation into the matter.
