Bhubaneswar: Woman assistant professor raped by colleague, blackmailed with obscene video

Bhubaneswar: A woman assistant professor of a private educational institute in Jagamara area of Odisha capital was allegedly raped by her colleague and blackmailed by the accused with obscene videos of the victim.

According to reports, the 24-year-old woman, who hails from Raipur district of Chhattisgarh, had started working as an assistant professor at the institute in March, last year.

Accused Umesh Sudhakar, former assistant professor of the institute, befriended her. Later in September 2021, Umesh invited the woman to a hotel in Jagamara. As she reached the hotel, he offered her a glass of cold drink which was spiked with drug to make her unconscious.

After the woman lost her consciousness, Umesh raped her at the hotel and made a video of the incident.

The accused started blackmailing the victim with the video by threatening her to make the clip viral on social media platforms and forced her to have physical relation with him.

He also took Rs 2 lakh from the woman in three installments by blackmailing her with the video.

Recently, Umesh gave her death threats following which she went to her house in Raipur and narrated the ordeal before her parents. The woman then lodged a complaint with the Kabir Nagar police on May 24.

Raipur DIG wrote to the Twin City Commissionerate Police in this regard, on the basis of which the Khandagiri police registered a case under Sections 376, 506 and 384 of the IPC.

Further probe by police was underway.
