Bhubaneswar, Sep 7:

Thanks to the alertness of the security personnel, a daylight robbery attempt by a gang of dacoits at the main branch of State Bank of India (SBI) at Unit-I under Capital Police Station limits was foiled on Saturday.

According to bank sources, the four-member gang entered the bank during the rush hour at about 11.45 am.

Later, one of the members went to the cash counter. Finding the accountant busy in work, he took out cash worth Rs 244,000 kept on the table. As soon as the accountant came to know about the missing of cash, he immediately alerted the security personnel deployed at the entrance gate who caught the miscreant while he was trying to flee with the cash. In the meanwhile, the three other associates managed to escape.

Following information, a team of Capital Police rushed to the bank and arrested the accused after recovering the cash from his possession.

The police, however, did not reveal the identity of the accused saying it would hamper its investigation.

Efforts are on to nab the other three gang members, it said.
