Biju Patnaik Airport to be expanded in Odisha capital

In view of delay during arrival and departure of flights, the Biju Patnaik International airport will be expanded in Odisha capital with construction of another Parallel taxi track on the runway.

The parking space will be expanded accommodating 11 flights. There will be rapid exit track through which the flight will make exit from running track immediately after landing. Total Rs 100 crore will be spent for the project and target has been set to complete the project by March 2019, said Airports Authority of India (AAI) chairman Guru Prasad Mohapatra.

“A modernized control tower is being built at Biju Patnaik airport. The fire station and workshop work are also in progress for which Rs 64.29 crore will be spent. The project will be completed by March 2019”, Mohapatra told reporters yesterday while reviewing Jharsuguda airport project.

The Terminal 1 and 2 buildings will be integrated at cost of Rs 12 crore for the convenience of overseas passengers at the airport. The project will be completed by March 2018, he said.

Upgradation will be made in front of Terminal 1 building for passengers for entrance. Besides, a blueprint has been prepared for the Radar, Reciprocal ILS, Advanced-Surface Movement Guidance and Control Systems (A-SMGCS) at the airport, he added.
