Birth centers go up from 23 to 38 in Odisha’s Kandhamal

The number of child-birth centers in Odisha’s backward Kandhamal district has gone up from 23 to 38, said the district’s coordinator for National Health Mission (NHS) Bulunath Sahu while speaking at the executive body meeting of Kandhamal district health mission here yesterday.

The meeting also informed the members that their plan 2014-17 has also been approved by the state government.

The district also has five Shraddha clinics, 24 functional mobile medical teams out of the total 27 teams and seven 108 ambulances and six 102 ambulances to attend to emergencies. Kandhamal district health mission and district health committee have been reconstructed as advised by the state government.

While 9611 beneficiaries of the district benefited under ‘Janani Suraksha Yojana’ in 2014-15, 3396 have benefited from 102 ambulance services.  The district administration has also organized 12,889 village health and nutrition days to ensure better nutrition for the children and mothers.

Overall, the village welfare fund of the district has spent Rs 71,74,366 by end of February 2015. During 2014-15, the administration has spent Rs 6,68,56,000 under RCH scheme, Rs 6,77,27,000 under national rural health mission and Rs 14,71,28,000 for vaccination. It has also spent Rs 68.1 crores under infrastructure development plan to build 302 health centers within 2014-17.

It may be noted that the executive body meeting of Kandhamal district health mission and district health committee was held yesterday at the conference hall of the district headquarters hospital and was presided by Jilla Parishad president Sanjukta Kanhar.

The meeting also deliberated upon proposals to increase the bed limits at Daringbadi community health center, recommend the government to fulfill vacancies of doctor positions in hospitals at regular intervals and create awareness among the public regarding government welfare programmes etc.

The meeting was attended by Baliguda MLA Rajiv Patra, G Udaygiri MLA Jacob Pradhan, additional collector Pradipta Sahani among others.
