The decision to close the college sine die was taken to avoid a recurrence of violence in the campus in raecvtion to the decision taken by the staff council’s decision earlier in the day to cancel elections for the Plus 3 students’ union, they said.

Elections for the Plus 3 students’ union were cancelled earlier in the day in view of the pre-election violence in the college premises on Wednesday.

While two groups of students of the BJB Autonomous College clashed on Wednesday morning, two bombs were hurled, one each at the women’s hostel and the men’s hostel late in the night leaving a woman boarder injured. She was admitted to the Capital Hospital.

Tension prevailed in the campus today as one group of students kept demanding the holding of students’ union elections saying the decision to cancel elections amounted to abrogation of students’ democratic rights.

Keeping in mind the tense situation in the campus, college authorities decided to declare sine die, said sources.
