BJD candidate wins BMC by poll in Odisha capital

The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) candidate has won the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) by poll, result of which was declared today.

The BJD candidate Susmita Das, who contested from the Ward 17 for the Corporator’s post, won the election by defeating her Congress rival by a significant margin.

She defeated her opponent by a margin of 1666 votes. The Congress nominee failed to put up any fight as she polled only 383 votes. Notably, the BJP had not fielded any candidate for the seat.

Of 7,667 voters, only 2,243 turned to exercise their franchise. Voting was conducted at seven booths on Saturday. A low turnout was registered as a meagre 31.6 per cent voters turned up to cast their votes for the by poll.
