The celebration was marked by the inauguration of a blood donation programme–Jeevan Bindu–by chief minister Naveen Patnaik followed by a mini marathon organized by the Sports and Youth Affairs department in the capital city.

“Any voluntary organization, political party or social organization can opt for blood donation. It is a welcome move. It will address the demand-supply gap of blood in the state, more so during the summer season, where there is acute shortage of blood. I hope, Jeevan Bindu would be able to address this issue,” said Health and Family Welfare minister Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak.

“I understand gift of blood is gift of life. It’s a noble cause. People cannot manage to procure blood in times of their need. I will always donate blood no matter who organizes the camp,” said Feroz Khan, a blood donor present in the camp.

The chief minister also flagged off a mini marathon in which the participants covered a distance of six km from the Biju Patnaik Park to Kalinga Stadium .

While Arun Tudu was adjudged the winner in male category, Sukumati Laguri was adjudged the winner in female category.

“I am elated to win again. Earlier I had won another mini-marathon organized by the Tata Steel . I advise others to practice harder and wish them luck for next time,” said Sukumati.

“We have organized this event to remind people about the steps Biju Babu had taken to bring women to politics.  It is also an occasion to remind the youth about their role in building the nation,” said Sports and Youth Affairs minister Sudam Marndi.
