BJD complains against ‘model code’ violation by Congress

Bhubaneswar, Jan 7 :

The BJD has field a complaint with the State Election Commission (SEC) today alleging violation of the model code of conduct by the Congress by calling a ‘hartal’ and raising slogans against the BJD government and chief minister Naveen Patnaik on a day when no public campaigning is allowed.

A six member team of BJD MLAs led by Anant Das today met with the state election commissioner Ajit Kumar Tripathy and submitted a petition against the Congress for violating the model code which in force for the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation ( BMC ) polls due to be held on January 8.

“ The Congress has defied the model code by campaigning in public under the pretext of ‘hartal’ today. They have picketed at various places in the city and displayed party flags. They have raised slogans in favour of their party and against BJD as well as chief minister Naveen Patnaik. This is simply unacceptable,”, senior BJD MLA Anant Das told OST.

The SEC has asked the Khurda collector for a report in the matter, sources said.
