BJD MLA Kishore Mohanty passes away at 64

Bhubaneswar: BJD MLA and former Speaker Kishore Mohanty died today evening. Mohanty, who was Brajrajnagar sitting MLA, passed away while undergoing treatment at a  private hospital in Jharsuguda. He was 64.

Mohanty suffered from a heart attack earlier in the day following which he was admitted to the hospital in Jharsuguda.

In 2019 election, Mohanty was elected from the Brajrajnagar Assembly constituency from BJD ticket and defeated BJP candidate Radha Rani Panda.

Mohanty was Speaker of the State Assembly from 2007-09. He was the government chief whip from 2004-07.

He was elected to the State Assembly thrice from Jharsuguda Assembly seat.

He worked as the Western Odisha Development Council (WODC) Chairman from 2014 to 2019.
