The student wing of Odisha’s ruling Biju Janata Dal today held a demonstration in Odisha’s premier BJB College and locked down the principal demanding action against Badagada police that had arrested some of their fellow supporters on August 8.

While some of the students locked down the principal inside his office, few others blocked the main road by burning tyres on it. The situation only improved after police intervention.

“The IIC of Badagada police station Suvendu Sinha is not arresting the students against whom there are complaints. He has turned out to be an agent of BJP. He is harassing the supporters of Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) regularly and not letting them move freely in the campus,” alleged a student leader.

“We condemn the way a raid was conducted at 2:30 in the night and innocent students were arrested. We will intensify out stir further should there be no action against the IIC,” he added.

It may be noted here that two student groups of the college belonging to Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) had faced off on August 8 pertaining to a college poll issue.  The cops had arrested some of the students in connection with the incident that night.

Meanwhile, both preparation and tension continue to run high in both camps even though the schedule for students’ union polls is yet to be announced in the state.
