BJD sweeps polls in eight Odisha ULBs

The ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) swept the elections in eight urban local bodies (ULBs) in Odisha as per the results declared during the counting of votes which began this morning.

The BJD won an absolute majority in Daspalla, Dharmagarh, Balimela, Tusra, and Redhakhol Notified Area Councils (NAC) and three municipalities in Paradip, Belpahar and Sunabeda.

Mentioned hereunder are the results of the ULB polls .

Daspalla NAC (Total 16 seats): BJD-13, Congress-0, BJP-1 and Independent-2
Dharamgarh NAC (Total 14 seats): BJD-13, Congress-1, BJP-0 and Independent-0

Tusra NAC (Total 11 seats): BJD-8, Congress-0, BJP-2 and Independent-1
Redhakhol NAC (Total 13 seats): BJD-12, Congress-0, BJP-1 and Independent-0
Balimela NAC (Total 12 seats): BJD-7, Congress-2, BJP-3 and Independent-0
Paradip Municipality (Total 19 seats): BJD-16, Congress-2, BJP-1 and Independent-0

Belpahar Municipality (Total 19 seats): BJD-16, Congress-1, BJP-2 and Independent-0
Sunabeda Municipality (Total 25 seats): BJD-18, Congress-5, BJP-2 and Independent-0

Out of the total of 129 wards, the BJD has obtained a lion’s share with 103 wards (79.84%). While the opposition Congress and the BJP have cut a sorry figure with 11 (8.52%) and 12 wards (9.30%) respectively, the Independents have won three seats (2.32%).
