BJD to register sweeping victory in Lok Sabha polls: Naveen

Nayagarh: Chief Minister and Biju Janata Dal (BJD) Supremo Naveen Patnaik is confident that his party will sweep the Lok Sabha polls by winning all 21 seats in Odisha.

“The BJD will win 21 Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming elections and there will be no place for other political parties in the State,” said Patnaik during an election rally in Nayagarh district today.

Addressing public at the workers’ rally, he said that the BJD will have a key role in formation of government at Centre as a single national party will not get majority.

Hitting out at BJP for Centre’s negligence and step-motherly attitude towards Odisha over several key issues, he alleged that the Centre ignored State’s interest in case of Mahanadi water sharing dispute and Polavaram irrigation project.

“The Centre supported the Andhra Pradesh and Chhattisgarh in Polavaram and Mahanadi cases sidelining the interests of Odisha,” said Patnaik.

“Odisha has remained neglected by the Centre in banking and telecommunication sectors. While the party heads control everything when it come to power, the remote control of Odisha is in hands of 4.5 crore people,” he said.

He also targeted the BJP-led government at Centre on special category state issue.

“We have been fighting for special state category to Odisha. It was promised by the BJP during 2014 elections. After forming government at Centre, the party forgot it. Is not it the Centre’s negligence?” he asked.

The BJD head claimed that the party has given importance to women in distribution of tickets for the upcoming polls.

“I have nominated Pramila Bisoi from Mission Shakti as the candidature for Aska Lok Sabha seat,” he said asking the gathering with his style “Apana Mane Khusi ta?…Mu bi bahut khusi.”

“Biju Janata Dal is the only party in India that has given 33% reservation to women for Lok Sabha polls,” he said.

He said that the State government has provided loan to women at zero percent interest rate under Mission Shakti programme as part of women empowerment.

Speaking about KALIA scheme, he said that lakhs of farmers have also been benefited under State’s most populous farmers’ scheme for agriculture.

Patnaik, who is the star campaigner of BJD, launched his election campaign from Nayagarh today.

Speaking at the rally, Rajya Sabha MP Soumya Ranjan Patnaik, who is among 22-member star campaigners, said, “We should learn one thing from Naveen Babu that he speaks less and works more.”

Patnaik had busy schedule in the past two months in attending various programmes of Biju Yuva Vahini, Mission Shakti and KALIA scheme in several districts. Nayagarh remained untouched during the period.

“It could be noted that a father always keeps sweet for his dearest son. The Nayagarh people might be thinking that the CM did not visit their place for any programme. However, nobody knew that the maiden election campaign and rally will begin from Nayagarh,” said Soumya Ranjan.

“On May 23 when the election results will be announced, our names will be scripted in history that Nayagarh from where the election campaign was launched has achieved landslide victory,” said.

He gave only one mantra for the elections asking the party workers to be focused and work to achieve the target.

“As the students of matriculation examination make efforts with a target to achieve maximum numbers, we need to do accordingly to reach our goal,” he added.
