BJD wins Utkal University students’ union polls after 14 years

Odisha Sun Times Bureau
Bhubaneswar, Sep 29: After 14 years, the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) finally made inroads to Utkal University as its students’ wing Biju Chhatra Janata Dal (BCJD) leader Rajesh Raj Swain was elected as the president of university students’ union in the Odisha’s capital city today.

Swain defeated ABVP supported candidate Manas Sahu by a margin of 136 votes.

BCJD also bagged the general secretary post with the win of its candidate Suryakant Sahoo.

On the other hand, the Congress, which had been ruling the roost in the students’ union elections in the university since last 14 years, has cut a sorry figure as the party failed to field a candidate in this election.

It may be mentioned that the former Congress students’ union president Chinmoy Sahoo and two student Congress leaders had recently joined the BJD.
