Bhubaneswar, Sep 23:

Accusing the state election commissioner (SEC) Ajit Tripahty of having a nexus with the state government to ensure the victory of ruling party candidates in the recently concluded Urban Local Body (ULB) polls, state BJP president KV Singhdeo today demanded his removal before elections for the Bhubaneswar and Cuttack Corporation along with 25 deferred ULB polls in the western Odisha.

“Tripathy’s role in BJD’s alleged win in the ULB polls is far bigger than BJD leaders and ministers. Killing his conscience and ethics, Tripathy nurtured an illegitimate platform for the Naveen Government to win the polls,” said Singdeo in a press release.

“The tall claims of the Tripathy of being impartial have been exposed. The state BJP had given several proofs regarding the SEC’s prejudice and bias in handling the alleged violation of the Model Code of Conduct by the government but all our voices were put on deaf ear. This encouraged the BJD leaders and ministers to engage in rampant violation of the Model code and use of money and muscle power to lure and threaten people to win the election,” alleged Singhdeo.

He also said that the government had blackmailed Tripathy to go in favour of the ruling party as he has been allegedly acting as the director of a company named Multi-disciplinary Centre on Safety Health and Environment against which several cases of financial irregularities and embezzlements were found by the CAG.

“Even if Tripathy is on a prominent post of a Constitutional body, he has been allegedly acting as the director of a company named Multi-disciplinary Centre on Safety Health and Environment against which several cases of financial irregularities and embezzlements were shown by the CAG in its 2009-10 and 2010-11 report. This has clearly exposed his credibility and the government blackmailed him on that ground. This made Tripathy not to accept any case of alleged violation of the Model code even if he was in know of it,” said Singhdeo.
