“The party will intensify its membership drive aiming to add 100 persons at every booth during the special drive, which will start on January 23 and continue till January 25. The BJP has a total of 445 Mandals (Block level office) in Odisha and each mandal will be led by one Sadasya Pravari and a Sadasya Saha Pravari,” Singh said addressing media persons here today.

A total of 890 leaders from these 445 mandals would attend a training programme at the party head office here tomorrow. They will be trained on how to go about conducting the membership drive at the booth level, he added.

“At the national level, we have registered 4 crore people so far and aim to rope in 10 crore members by the end of the drive on March 31. If we achieve this mark, our party will rank as the largest party in the world,” the BJP leader said.

Charging the BJD with unleashing a goonda raj in the state, Singh said workers of BJP were attacked by ruling party supporters on Mahasamavesh day attended by National president Amit Shah on January 6 in the city. “The party has lodged cases in this regard at different police stations across the state such as at Ghantagaon in Keonjhar district, Vani Vihar here, Dharmasala in Jajpur district and in Anandpur,’ he added.

“Our party will corner the BJD government by taking to the streets in the coming days on the chit fund scam, the coal scam, the land scam and other corruption cases of the government,” Singh warned.

The BJP pravari said at least 60 BJD leaders had joined the saffron party through the ‘missed call’ system it has launched to expedite the membership drive.

BJD spokesperson Pratap Jena, however, rubbished Singh’s claim saying the BJP was leaving in a fool’s paradise. “On the contrary, over 700 BJP members have joined the BJD,” he claimed.
