Bhubaneswar, Dec 19:

The BJP has given a 12-hour bandh call in Bhubaneswar on December 21 over city Mayor Anant Narayan Jena’s alleged link in the much talked about engineering student Ashutosh Mohanty alias Rishi murder case, informed Bhubaneswar district BJP president Harekrushna Khuntia today.

However, trains and emergency services will be excluded from the purview of the bandh, Khuntia said.

“We request auto-rickshaw associations, bus owners, market committee associations, school and colleges to extend their support towards the bandh call,” he said

On the other hand, the BJP today observed a two-hour chakka jam in municipalities and notified area councils (NACs) across the state demanding a high-level probe into the alleged involvement of the Mayor in the murder case.

Party activists were seen staging road blockade in Talcher, Nimapara, Kendrapara, Nuapada, Angul, Athamallik, Ranpur, Bhadrak, Kabisuryanagar, Hinjili, Kantabanjhi and Nayagarh.

“We demand immediate intervention of the Chief Minister in the matter. The Chief Minister should immediately intervene and order for a probe into the murder and video clip. A forensic examination of the video clip should be done at a central laboratory. If the government fails to wake up to the situation Bharatiya Janata Party will intensify its agitation,” Prithviraj Harichandan, general secretary of the BJP state unit, had said yesterday.
