The saffron party decided to launch the mega campaign during the two-day visit of party’s national president Amit Shah beginning from January 6.

Briefing newsmen here, senior BJP leader Bijay Mohapatra alleged that the arbitrary land allotment by the General Administration department at low premium has incurred a loss to the tune of Rs 251 crore to the state exchequer as per the report of the Accountant General (AG).

Coming down heavily on the state government, Mohapatra said that government has deliberately decided to go by the cabinet decision on land and houses allotted under discretionary quota to hush up massive irregularities it had committed in the allotment of plots under the General Administration department.

He said the chief minister, who is in charge of the General Administration department, was responsible since the department had allotted the lands at a very low premium in gross violation of the allotment norms and procedures.

“While the state government had announced cancellation of plots and houses of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), Cuttack Development Authority (CDA)and Odisha State Housing Board (OSHB) allotted under discretionary quota since January 1995 as per the cabinet decision, it tried to suppress the real scam in the allotment of lands made by the General Administration department by not incorporating the list of allotment of lands with the list of the Task Force.

Terming the cabinet decision on discretionary quota as faulty, he said the move by the state government was a big drama as the decision contained many contradictions and discrepancies.

Mohapatra also said that apart from this, the claim of the Naveen Patnaik government that there is no involvement of its party leaders in the chit fund scam has proved false as the CBI probe has revealed the involvement of several BJD leaders in the scam.

This apart, Justice MB Shah Commission, in its report, has also referred to the massive mining scam in Odisha.

“Taking all these into consideration, the BJD government has lost all moral right to remain in office, Mohapatra said.
