BJP leader, teacher & ASHA worker test COVID 19 positive in Odisha

Deogarh: Of the 103 fresh coronavirus cases reported in the state today, Deogarh district registered the highest number of 22 cases, including three local contacts.

The remaining 19 patients including a woman are 16 Tamil Nadu returnees and three Andhra Pradesh returnees. While 11 were lodged at a temporary medical camp (TMC) at Sado under Tileibani block, eight were kept in another quarantine centre in Riamal block of the district.

Sources said the three local contacts include a BJP leader aged 54 years of Kansar village, a 38-year-old school teacher of Dangapathar village and a 46 year-old ASHA worker of Sado.  Both the teacher and the ASHA worker were engaged at Sado TMC.

Sources added that a son of the BJP leader, who tested positive, is a Maharashtra returnee and was under home quarantine. Swab samples of the family were collected for COVID- test. Though his son tested negative for the virus, reports of the BJP leader came positive.

With the new cases, the total number of confirmed cases in the district rose to 24, including 23 active cases.

Worth mentioning, Odisha reported highest single-day spike of 103 positive cases today. On May 13, it had reported 101 positive cases.
