BJP protests BMC user fee hike in Odisha capital

BJP activists today scuffled with police while protesting against the hike in the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) user fee.

The BJP activists damaged official property after they were stopped by the police from barging into the BMC office.

A fight between the police and protesters ensued,  but security forces later forcibly pushed the agitating workers out of the premises.

Meanwhile,  BJP spokesperson Lekhashri Samantray said the BJP workers had given prior information to police, yet the women workers were manhandled by policemen.

BJP party has demanded a complete withdrawal of the users fee and alleged that BMC was corrupt and inefficient.

The party  has decided to hold protest in various parts of the city from May 1.

Meanwhile, Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena has said that the user fees collection by the BMC will be collected as usual and appealed to the citizens to pay up.

Meanwhile, the civic body had decided to collect user fees from individual households, slums, malls, shops, hotels, restaurants and eateries for hygiene and cleanliness and effective disposal of solid waste from December 1, 2015.
