The delegation, led by BJP state women’s wing president Simantini Jena, spoke to the husband of the deceased and other villagers.

The delegation also met Superintendent of Police (SP) Anup Kumar Sahu in his office and demanded immediate arrest of those involved in the murder.

Jena came down hard on the BJD for making tall claims about women’s safety and development of dalits when they themselves have murdered a dalit woman.

The party demanded a compensation of Rs 5 lakh to the family of the deceased.

It may be noted here that Sulochana Dalei alias Bagi (35), a mother of three children, was attacked by an armed group, allegedly owing allegiance to BJD and killed her on Friday night.

The incident took place on the village road in full public view during immersion ceremony of Pusa Purnima.

Jajpur SP Anup Sahu said that two persons out of the five accused have been arrested and raids are on at different places to nab others.

Male members of the families involved in the attack on the woman have fled the village to avoid arrest.

One platoon of armed police force has been deployed at the village to maintain law and order following the incident.
