BK Sharma becomes Odisha’s first Director of Civil Defence

Bhubaneswar: Senior IPS officer Bijay Kumar Sharma became the first Director of Civil Defence after Odisha government changed the nomenclature of DG Fire Services and Commandant General Home Guards, official sources said today.

The 1986-batch officer, on November last year, was posted as Director General of Fire Services and Commandant General (home guards) and Director of Civil Defence.

Prior to this, Sharma was serving as Director General (Prisons). He was also promoted and posted as Special DGP Crime Branch (CID).

The senior IPS officer had also served as Commissioner of Police of Bhubaneswar-Cuttack from May 2008 to May 2012.

Before going to deputation in Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) from July 1999 to July 2006, he had served as Superintendent of Police of various districts from 1990 to 1999.
