Blistering heat sweeps across Odisha; 18 places record temperature above 40 degrees Celsius

Bhubaneswar: Residents in different parts of Odisha experienced hot and humid weather today as 18 places recorded maximum temperature at 40 degrees Celsius or above. Out of them, four stations recorded maximum temperature at 43 degrees Celsius or above.

According to the data provided by the Regional Meteorological Centre, Sonepur was the hottest at 44.5 degrees Celsius followed by Balangir at 43.5 degrees Celsius.

Other places which recorded 40 degrees Celsius or above are: Titlagarh – 43.2 degrees Celsius, Sambalpur – 43 degrees Celsius, Bargarh and Boudh – 42.5 degrees Celsius, Jharsuguda – 42.4 degrees Celsius, Bhawanipatna – 42 degrees Celsius, Hirakud – 41.9 degrees Celsius, Angul – 41.7 degrees Celsius, Baripada – 41.6 degrees Celsius, Paralakhemundi – 41.5 degrees Celsius, Nuapada and Malkangiri – 41 degrees Celsius, Dhenkanal – 40.3 degrees Celsius, and Keonjhar, Sundargarh and Talcher – 40 degrees Celsius.

People remained indoors due to the hot day today. Those who were out kept themselves hydrated with sugarcane juice and lemonade. Movement of vehicles especially buses were also minimal.
