Blot on khaki: Odisha cops loot C’garh businessman; 2 suspended

In a shocking incident, three police personnel allegedly looted Rs 3,02,000 from a businessman in Odisha’s Bargarh district.

The incident took place on the night of April 23, while a complaint in this regard was lodged by the businessman with Bargarh Town police yesterday following which a case was registered.

While a sub-inspector, identified as Dhabaleswar Sahu, and constable Hemant Das were suspended in connection with the incident, homeguard Basant Jena was dismissed from service.

As per the complaint filed by Sudhir Khatri, a Chhattisgarh-based scrap businessman, two policemen in plain clothes intercepted him at Barahagoda toll gate here for checking while he was on his way to Jajpur on April 23.

Sudhir was later taken to a police outpost by the cops where the latter tortured him both mentally and physically. The policemen later took away Rs 3.02 lakh from him and asked him to leave the place, he alleged.

“Sudhir Khatri has alleged that two persons in plain clothes intercepted him identifying themselves as police, assaulted him and looted money on April 23. A case has been registered into the incident under Section 394 of IPC. Investigation into the matter is on,” said Rajkishore Mishra, IIC, Bargarh Town police station.
