Rourkela, Sept 15:

The fire brigade personnel today fished out the bodies of two students, from the downstream of Mandira river dam close to Odisha’s steel city.

The deceased students have been identified as Mohd Taslin and Mohd Saddan.

The search operation was on to trace out the body of Mohn Tausif, another student who is feared drowned in the dam.

According to reports, five college students from Rajgangpur had gone to watch a movie on Sunday afternoon. On their way, they went to the downstream of Mandira river dam at Bhaludungri area to take each other’s photographs on the river bed.

Unfortunately, while they were posing before the camera, the dam authorities released water from the dam. Unaware of the release of dam water, the panicked students tried their best to run to the river bank. But it was too late for them as the water with strong current gushed in from the upstream of the river in a flash.

While two students managed to reach the river bank, three of their friends were swept away.

After being informed about the incident in the evening, a fire brigade team from Rourkela rushed to the spot and conducted a search for the three missing students till late night, but there was no trace of the three students.

While the fire brigade team today fished out the bodies of two students, Tausif was untraced till reports last came in.

According to the two students who survived the tragedy, they had gone into the shallow waters of the river to take the photographs which they intended to post on the facebook and whatsapp.

“We had no knowledge about the release of the water from the dam that came all too sudden”, they said.
