Bol Bam devotees, servitors face-off at Lokanath temple in Odisha

Puri: A face-off ensued between Bol Bam devotees and servitors of Lokanath temple in Odisha’s Puri district today over pouring of water on Shiv Ling in the temple.

The incident later turned ugly as the devotees clashed with cops and ransacked a police outpost.

As many as two devotees and five policemen have sustained injuries, reports said.

“It has been alleged that a sevayat beat a devotee injuring him. We have hospitalised him. When we were taking the devotee to hospital, other devotees told us to bring the sevayats outside for identification. We said it is not possible now as rituals are going on. In a fit of rage, they ransacked police outpost and broke tables & chairs. We have detained 2-3 persons for instigating the act. Probe into the matter is on. CCTV footage will be examined and action will be taken against anyone found guilty,” said Puri SP Sarthak Sarangi.
