Bomb attack on Odisha lawyer’s home : Four accused arrested

Commissionerate Police today arrested four persons for their alleged involvement in hurling bombs on the house of a senior advocate of Odisha High Court located at Kanika Chowk in Cuttack city on Sunday night.

The accused, identified as Suryakanta Kar alias Bhanu (34), Prasanta Parija alias Tutu (36), Randhir Mohanty alias Bulu (46)- all residents of Kanika Chowk, Ramgarh under Lalbag police limits- and S K Sabir (23) of Bauxibazar under Mangalabag police limits , were booked under sections 506, 427, 34 of IPC r/w section 3 of Explosive Substance Act.

According to police sources, some unknown miscreants had hurled bombs on the house of Bijay Kumar Dash, a senior advocate of Odisha High Court at about 9 pm oN Sunday night. They also resorted to abusive threats against Dash’s family while decamping.

Fortunately, the bombs caused only minor damages to the house.

Following a complaint report lodged by Dash at Bidanasi police station on Sunday night, the police registered a case and began investigations into the matter.

The accused persons were  arrested today and forwarded to a  local Court in Cuttack.

The police investigation revealed that the accused used to sit near Dash’s house late into the night and resort to undesirable activities everyday. The police patrolling party had warned them on a number of occasions and asked them to refrain from such activities. Supsecting Dash to be behind repeated police warnings, the accused had decided to terrorise him and finally resorted to bombing his house on Sunday night.

However further investigation into the real motivation behind the bombing is underway, they added.

Giving details of past criminal records of the four accused, the police said, while two cases each are pending against Suryakanta at and Prasanta at Bidanasi and Lalbag police stations
