Two persons were arrested and 26 handmade crude bombs seized in Panikoili area in Odisha's Jajpur district, police said on Friday.
The two, identified as Sitad Khan (39) and Subash Chandra Behera (35) of village Madhapur under the Mahanga police station in Cuttack district, were arrested Thursday while carrying the live bombs bombs from Mahanga to Jajpur Road on a motor cycle.
"Getting a tip-off, a police team followed the two persons who were coming to Jajpur Road from Mahanga on a motor bike with live bombs. The team managed to nab them at Sahapur along NH and seized 26 bombs from them," said Deepak Kumar, Jajpur Superintendent of Police.
Police suspect the bombs were procured to use in the ongoing urban body elections.
"We suspect the bombs were procured to use them in urban polls in Jajpur Road," he said.
District Police defused all the seized bombs by a special squad last night. The accused were produced in the local court today and remanded to jail custody as their bail applications were rejected. (PTI)
