Bone-chilling cold wave to prevail across Odisha; alert issued

Bhubaneswar: Bone-chilling cold wave conditions will prevail across Odisha as the night temperature is likely to dip further during next three days.

According to Bhubaneswar Regional Meteorological Centre, intense cold wave condition is likely to sweep Odisha with drop in minimum temperature by 5-6 degree Celsius over the districts of Interior part and by 4-5 degree Celsius over the districts of Coastal belt during next three days.

The MeT issued orange warning for 7 districts and yellow warning for 21 districts for tonight. Similarly, the yellow warning has been issued for 18 districts including Khordha and Cuttack for tomorrow and for six districts for December 23 night.

Day 1 (valid upto December 22 morning)

Orange warning: Isolated Cold wave to Severe cold wave condition very likely to prevail over the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj, Kalahandi, Bolangir, Sonepur and Boudh.

Yellow warning: Isolated Cold wave condition very likely to prevail over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Angul, Deogarh, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Nuapada, Kandhamal and Nabarangpur.

Yellow warning: Isolated Cold day condition very likely to prevail over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj,
Keonjhar, Kandhamal, Khordha and Kalahandi.

Day 2 (valid from December 22 upto December 23 morning)

Yellow warning: Isolated Cold wave conditions very likely to prevail over the districts of Angul, Sonepur, Boudh, Bolangir, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Balasore, Bhadrak, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Cuttack and Khordha.

Yellow warning: Isolated Cold day condition very likely to prevail over the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore and Kandhamal.

Day 3 (valid from December 23 upto December 24 morning)

Yellow warning: Isolated Cold wave conditions very likely to prevail over the districts of Kalahandi, Bolangir, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Keonjhar and Mayurbhanj.

The weathermen warned of various illness like running/stuffy nose or nosebleed due to prolonged exposure to cold. The livestock may be affected due to exposure to intense cold.

As the dry and cold weather is prevailing across the State, people are advised to stay indoor during night and early morning and use multiple clothes to avoid exposure to cold. For safety of livestock, they should be kept in shaded or indoor.

People should avoid during night especially through two wheelers/open cars. Safety measures should be taken while using electrical and gas heating devices.
