Book on Odisha’s biodiversity released

A book on Odisha’s biodiversity titled ‘Aquatic Plants of Eastern India’ was released by Industries, School & Mass Education minister Debi Prasad Mishra at the Nalco auditorium in the city here today.

book releaseThe book, authored by Dr Ajay Kumar Mahapatra, managing director, Odisha Forest Development Corporation (OFDCP), and Asok Biswal, deals with the wide varieties of aquatic and wetland plants across 34 districts of Eastern India.

Expressing his gratitude to Nalco for its active support in publishing the book, Mahapatra said it would not only be of immense help to the researchers, but would also enable the public to identify and preserve these species.

Praising the work done by the authors, Nalco CMD Tapan Kumar Chand underscored the importance of nature, nurture and future for sustainable development. He said the biotic and abiotic elements of ecology need to be in proper balance while nature needs to be conserved and preserved in its pristine beauty and bounty.

“In future, many more such environmental initiatives and publications are in offing,” Chand added.

Dr Hem Pandey, Union additional secretary, Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change and V Balasubramanyam, Director (Production), Nalco were present.
