Booth-level officials to be appointed for error-free voter list in Odisha

In order to ensure error-free voter list in Odisha, the state Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) has decided to appoint booth-level facilitators, who will be paid a lumpsum of  Rs 5000 a year on a contract basis.

Mona SharmaBriefing the media on Thursday, the CEO Dr Mona Sharma said the officials, to be appointed in the booths, should be local residents as well as registered voters in their respective booths.

They should not be members of any political party, nor have any links with any party.

Besides, they must not hold any position in any social or voluntary organization, she said, adding that these officials would be provided with a fixed remuneration of Rs 5000 per annum.

The officials eligible for the post are teachers, anganwadi workers, amins, panchayat secretaries, gram sevaks, power bill readers, Postmen, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs), health workers, mid-day meal (MDM) workers, contractual teachers, NAC, municipal and corporation tax collectors and clerks and other Class-III employees working in urban areas.

Apart from this, government, semi-government, corporation and retired government employees can also apply for the post, the CEO said.

Interested and eligible persons should apply to the district election officer and the sub collectors of their respective localities by September 9.

The task of these officials would include enlistment of eligible citizens of the respective booths in the voter list, correction in the voter list and assistance to the voters in the transfer of booths.

“Besides, they would also collect photos from the voters if they are not placed in the voter list, and distribute voter I-card to all eligible voters as per the Election Commission guidelines”, Dr Sharma informed.
