Sources said, a decision to this effect was taken when a four-member delegation of RCMA students met with the secretary of  the Employment, Technical Education and Training (ETE&T) department C S Kumar today over their long standing demand to get original registration cards and degree certificates, denied to them by the college authorities so far.

“We will wait for the result of the meeting at the BPUT on May 7. If we get a positive response from the officials nothing like it. Or else, our protest dharna at the Lower PMG will continue for an indefinite period until our demands are met,” said Raza Quadir, a MBA student at the venue of the dharna.

In the meantime, members of the All India Democratic Students’ Organization (AIDSO) haveexpressed solidarity with the RCMA students.

The RCM student said another team will meet the twin city Commissioner of Police (CP) Dr R P Sharma regarding the police assault on the students at Lower PMG here late on Monday night in which four girl students were injured and had to be admitted to the Capital hospital for treatment. 20 other students had received injuries during clash with police, they said.

Police sources said yesterday a group of RCMA students had demonstrated in front of the BPUT office at Gandamunda under Khandagiri police limits from 11.30 am to 10 pm night and created disturbances after they failed to meet BPUT VC . To restore normalcy, police forces detained more than 20 students and left the detainees at their protest site at Lower PMG.

However, police sources said, all of a sudden some students attacked police personnel for detaining their friends and damaged  two police vehicles. Later,  the situation was brought under control after the intervention of the city’s Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) and other senior police officials.

The students have been protesting against the apathetic attitude of the college management and inaction of the BPUT in giving them their registration cards and original certificates, which they said was a very genuine demand.
