Brave Odisha girl fights off abduction bid

Bhubaneswar: The increasing crime graph in the capital city has once again put questions on the efficiency of Odisha police. In the latest of the cases, a young girl survived an abduction bid yesterday in the city after a knife wielding miscreant tried to kidnap her.

An unidentified man tried to abduct the girl while she was standing in front of her hostel in Acharya Vihar area in the wee hours yesterday.

The victim had arrived here from Rayagada and was waiting for someone to open the main gate.

Unware of the miscreant approaching her, she was speaking to someone over mobile phone. In no time, the man wearing a helmet to cover his identity approached her and put a knife on her neck.

The brave girl put up a fight against the assailant while he dragged her till some distance. After a brief struggle, the anti-social gave up and fled from the spot on a two-wheeler.

The incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed outside the hostel.

Following this, the girl filed a complaint with the Saheed Nagar police station which is hardly 500 meter from the crime scene.

In her statement, the victim told police that around 3-4 people in a car at a distance also followed the motorcycle. The men in the vehicle might be a part of the plan, she suspected.

On the other hand, the owner of the hostel said that the inmates are a panicked lot and are scared to move out after the incident. Anti-socials are roaming and troubling the girls since few months.
