Bravery: 12-yr-old Odisha boy saves uncle from crocodile attack

Kendrapara: In a courageous act, a 12-year-old boy of Kandira village in Rajanagar area of Odisha’s Kendrapara district saved his uncle from an attack by a crocodile in a pond last night.

According to reports, one Binod Mallick of the village was attacked by an estuarine crocodile while he had gone to a pond after attending nature’s call. The reptile grabbed his left hand and started dragging him further inside the water body.

Hearing screams of Binod for help, his nephew Siku rushed to the spot. On getting aware of the critical situation, the minor boy switched on a torch and focussed the light on the animal’s eyes.

He also hit the crocodile’s mouth with a stick following which it released his uncle and went away inside the pond. The victim sustained injuries in the attack and was hospitalised for treatment.

The boy’s presence of mind and bravery has been praised by many in the locality.
