Bhubaneswar:  One more COVID-19 patient in Odisha succumbed to the virus taking the tally of causalities to 10, said Health and Family Welfare Department.

“Regret to report the death of a COVID positive 55-year-old male of Ganjam while under treatment in hospital. Cause of death was acute respiratory distress syndrome,” the H & FW Department said.

Meanwhile, the number of total COVID-19 positive cases in the state mounted to 3498 today after 112 more persons tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours, said

Of the new cases, five are local contacts while remaining 107 have been reported from different quarantine centres. Puri has reported highest 15 cases followed by Khordha and Mayurbhanj with 8 and 7 cases.

Of the fresh cases, 91 have been reported from 18 districts: Jharsuguda (2), Malangiri (3), Keonjhar (5), Jajpur (3) Khordha (8),  Angul (6), Deogarh (2), Cuttack (3), Ganjam (6 ), Sundargarh (4), Puri (15), Boudh (3), Gajapati(5), Sambalpur(5), Balangir (5), Mayurbhanj(7), Balasore(5) and Nayagarh(4). The remaining 21 cases are personnel  of  NDRF, ODRAF and Odisha  Fire service, who were under quarantine, following their return from  West Bengal after restoration work post cyclone Amphan.  

Total 3833 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. Contact tracing and followup action is underway, said the department.

With this, the number of active cases in the state rose to 1131. While 2354 persons have so far recovered in the state, 10 have succumbed to the virus.
