Broken injection needle removed after one month from genital area of minor

Angul: A broken injection needle was removed from the perineum of a minor boy at the Madhapur Community Health Centre (CHC) under Athmallik block of Odisha’s Angul district today, a month after it allegedly got stuck inside his body while a nurse was administering him the injection.

According to reports, Swayamjit Panda (3), son of Sitakanta Panda of Mohankhali village, was taken to the CHC a month ago for treatment of fever. A nurse had administered him an injection to his hip, during which the injection needle broke and remained inside his body, alleged father of the boy.

The child repeatedly complained of pain during the last one month. Last evening, his father again took him to the CHC, where the medical in-charge told them to visit the hospital in the morning.

A team of doctors today removed the needle, which had pierced the skin outwards, safely from the perineum. He has been shifted to the Angul District Headquarters Hospital for further treatment.
