Brown sugar seized in Odisha capital; one arrested

A mobile squad of the Excise department today seized 40-gram brown sugar, 20 kg ganja, and Rs 4,200 in cash from a refreshment shop in Jharana basti area in the Odisha capital. One person has been arrested by the squad in this connection.

Acting on a tip-off mobile squad of the Excise department raided the refreshment shop in Jharana basti.

“While patrolling we got a tip off that a refreshment shop in Jharana basti was having stock of brown sugar and ganja. On raiding the shop’s premises we seized 40-gram brown sugar, Rs 4,200 in cash and a weighing machine,” told Sarat Bhanja, S P of the district squad of the Excise department to reporters.

“I sell cigarettes. These were given to me by a person to keep. I do not know him. He had kept these things with me by telling that he will take them later. But he hasn’t turned up yet,” said the accused.
