BSF jawan from Odisha shoots self in West Bengal

Kuakhia, Feb 8:

A 25-year-old BSF jawan, native of Jajpur district in Odisha, has allegedly committed suicide yesterday by shooting himself with his service revolver at Hemtabad camp in Raigunj in neighbouring West Bengal. Panda was a member of BSF’s 167 number Battalion.


The deceased Jyotiprakash Panda (Raja), Kirtan Panda’s eldest son, hails from Chandipur village under Kuakhia police station limits in Jajpur district. He had joined Bihar Raiganj Regiment two years ago.

He was posted in West Bengal were he committed suicide yesterday. Raja has allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his own revolver on the head, preliminary investigations have found.

He was rushed to the hospital in a very critical condition, but succumbed on the way.  On Sunday, the regiment commander conveyed the news to Panda’s father over phone at 2:30 pm.

Jyotiprakash had come home in January and had refused to marry when his family members has given him marriage proposals.

The reason behind Panda taking to such extreme step is yet to be ascertained.
