The party demanded Rs 20 lakh and Rs 5 lakh ex-gratia for the family members of each deceased and injured, respectively. It also demanded replacement of all low-lying electric wires in the area.

While shops and business establishments remained closed, vehicular movement came to a grinding halt here due to the bandh.

The party activists staged road blockade on NH 53 near Kali Bazar here by burning tyres, sources said.

Four platoons of police force have been in the town to avoid any untoward situation during the bandh.

Notably, six persons were electrocuted and twenty five critically injured as the bus in which they were travelling came in contact with an 11 KV electric wire at Sishu Mandir Chhak in Bhuban of Odisha’s Dhenkanal district yesterday.

The bus ‘Sanyasi’ was on the way to Kamakshyanagar from Jajpur carrying 40-45 passengers. Luggage loaded over the vehicle came in contact with low lying 11 KV wires following which six passengers died of electrocution on the spot.
