Bypoll to vacant Odisha Rajya Sabha seat on May 25: ECI

Bhubaneswar, May 3:

The Election Commission of India (ECI) today decided to hold bye-election to the lone vacant Rajya Sabha seat from Odisha on May 25.

While a notification in this regard will be issued by the ECI on May 8, the last date of filing nominations will be May 15 and these will be scrutinised on May 16.

The last date for withdrawal of candidatures has been fixed for May 18.

The polling will be held on May 25 from 9 am to 4 pm and counting of votes will take place on the same day at 5 pm.

Notably, the Upper House seat from Odisha had fallen vacant following resignation of Bishnu Charan Das on March 21 this year. His term of office would have ended on July 1, 2022.

The ECI today also decided to hold bye-election to one Rajya Sabha seat from Manipur on May 25 as well.
