Cabinet approves pension for Odisha govt contractual staff

The state Cabinet today approved a proposal for amending the Odisha Civil Services Pension Rules that will benefit persons working in the state government on contractual basis.

“With amendment in rules, employees working in the government on contractual basis will get pensions. Under the pension scheme, 10 percent will be deducted from the salary of a contractual employee towards pension; the government will contribute an equal amount towards the scheme,” said G C Pati chief secretary briefing newsmen after the Cabinet meeting here today.

The Cabinet also gave its approval to a proposal for constitution of a land bank in the state for providing land to industries.

“The Cabinet today approved constitution of a land bank which will go a long way in removing hurdles in making land available for industries in the state. The proposed land bank will have both government and private lands. Land acquisition for the bank will be done through IDCO. The bank will be formed with one lakh acres of land,” said Pati.

The Cabinet approved a proposal for construction of 2,601 godowns in the state which will solve the problems associated with storage of paddy in the state, Pati informed.

Further, the Cabinet approved a proposal allowing industries to pay their outstanding water cess dues in five instalments. It also approved a proposal to grant premium free land to Maulana Azad Urdu University at Athagarh.

Besides, Pati also informed that the government will get back the land provided to Posco for its guest house in Bhubaneswar. The land will be returned to the General Administration department, he added.

Other major proposal that got approval of the Cabinet is that a special cadre will be created for municipal employees in the state. Notified Area Councils (NACs) in the state will have a minimum of 11 employees from the cadre. They will be appointed through the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) and Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC).

The Cabinet which approved 18 proposals today included the inquiry commission report on Phasiguda firing.
