Call centres under STF scanner; Bharat Matrimony branch raided in Bhubaneswar

Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch is now keeping vigil on the call centres across the State following raids over alleged illegal use of SIM boxes in Bhubaneswar yesterday.

A joint team of STF and Department of Telecommunications (DoT) raided two call centres located at Chandrasekharpur and Laxmisagar area on Sunday. During the raid, the sleuths unearthed illegal use of SIM boxes at Bhubaneswar unit of Bharat Matrimony at Radhika Tower, Cuttack Road.

A notice has been sent to the matrimony firm asking to submit the documents related to the SIM boxes.

“Action will be taken under IT Act if some error comes into notice,” informed STF SP Rahul PR yesterday.

The raids were conducted by the DoT following complaint with the STF for frequent phone calls from overseas to various locations in Bhubaneswar.

Apart from Bhubaneswar, the illegal use of SIM boxes is also reported from several places especially Berhampur, Puri, Aska and Gopalpur.

Sources said that the raids will be conducted in these areas soon.
