Cancer hospital to be established at NISER Bhubaneswar campus

Bhubaneswar: A state-of-the-art cancer hospital will be established at the campus of National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER), Bhubaneswar, informed Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan today.

Pradhan held a meeting in this regard with Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, Bhubaneswar MP Aparajita Sarangi and senior officials of Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, and Department of Atomic Energy.

An amount of Rs 650 crore has been approved for the cancer hospital out of which Rs 250 crore is being contributed by Tata Trusts and the remainder Rs 400 crore is being contributed by the Department of Atomic Energy, said Pradhan.

A total of 17 acres of land has already been allotted for the construction of the hospital. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is also providing an additional 10 acres of land for the construction of the cancer hospital, the Union Minister said.

A skill development centre will also come up at NISER Bhubaneswar campus to cater to the skilling requirements of medical professionals at the cancer hospital, he said.

In line with PM Narendra Modi’s vision, the cancer care hospital and skill development centre at NISER Bhubaneswar will strengthen treatment facilities, scale up competencies of health professionals and initiate high-quality research to meet emerging requirements in the field of oncology, he added.
