Cash worth Rs 4.59 lakh stolen from bank in Odisha

Sundargarh, July 11:

Police have begun investigation into the theft of cash worth Rs 4.59 lakh from Punjab National Bank’s  Bargaon branch at Bhoipali in Odisha’s Sundargarh district late on Friday night.


The incident came to light at 10 AM today after the peon of the bank noticed the broken lock of the main door. After noticing the broken back door and window of the bank, he immediately informed Bank manager who rushed to the spot and lodged a complaint with the Bargaon police.

Later, a team of Bargaon police led by Rajgangpur SDPO SK Panigrahi arrived at the bank with a scientific team. During investigation, police found that the thieves had used a gas cutter to open the locker of the branch.

“Efforts are on to nab the thieves,” the SDPO said.
