Caught on camera: Odisha Cong leader instigates violence during Nabarangpur bandh

Nabarangpur: Senior Congress leader Pradeep Majhi today landed in a major controversy after a video of the former MP instigating party workers for violence during bandh in Nabarangpur district surfaced.

In the video, Majhi can be seen telling protesters over mobile phone to keep diesel and petrol ready for arson. “Keep diesel and petrol ready… set everything on fire after getting direction,” said Majhi over telephone. Later, a car was set on fire at Ambedkar Chhak here.

Worth mentioning, Congress was today observing bandh in Nabarangpur district alleging police inaction in the incident of alleged rape and murder of a minor girl in Kosagumuda area.

“We want to warn the government that if justice is not served in the case, we will take law in our hands for our constitutional rights, dignity and safety,” said Majhi, adding that the car was set on fire by irate locals.

“The Congress party has two leaders– Mahatma Gandhi and Subhas Chandra Bose. We are inspired by the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi. As we didn’t get justice, we decided to opt Subhas Bose’s ‘path’,” he added.

“I have no regret whatever I said over the phone. If I have to adopt violence to keep my mothers and sisters safe, I will not step back,” the tribal Congress leader said.
