Bhubaneswar, July 22:
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has asked the governments of West Bengal and Odisha to submit all documents related to the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam before July 31, CBI sources said.
The CBI is investigating the scam spread across the states of West Bengal and Assam following a Supreme Court direction in May this year.
The apex court had also asked the state governments to assist CBI in its probe.
The investigation was handed over to CBI as the West Bengal police had failed to make any headway in the case, the SC had said.
Both the West Bengal and Odisha governments did their best to prevent a CBI probe in the scam.
At least 44 companies, including Kolkata-based Saradha Group, and Odisha-based Seashore and Artha Tatwa groups, are being probed by the CBI.
