CBI registers case in Gopinath Munde’s death

New Delhi, June 17 :

The CBI Tuesday registered a case following allegations of foul play in the road accident that killed union minister Gopinath Munde, an official said.

The Central Bureau of Investigation registered the case under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304 A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code against “unknown persons” relating to Munde’s death in the accident here.

“We took up the investigation of the case Monday on the orders of the government of India and registered an FIR today (Tuesday) after inspection of the scene of crime,” said a CBI official.

The agency has collected all relevant documents pertaining to the case from Delhi Police.

Munde, a popular Bharatiya Janata Party leader from Maharashtra, was on his way to the Indira Gandhi International airport June 3 when his car was hit by another vehicle at the Prithviraj Road-Tughlak Road roundabout in Lutyens’ Delhi.

Munde died due to shock and haemorrhage following injuries to his neck and liver in the accident.

Delhi Police registered a case against 32-year-old driver Gurvinder Singh, whose car hit Munde’s vehicle.
