CBSE syllabus for Odisha Plus Two Science course from this year

The Odisha government has decided to replace the existing Plus Two Science syllabus of the Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) with the syllabus of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) from the current academic session.

As part of its effort to bring about necessary reforms in the Plus Two curriculum to enable students from the state to compete at all India level examinations, the Higher Education department had formed a fact-finding team in March this year to suggest reforms in the Arts, Science and Commerce streams.

Though the committee had submitted its report on the change of syllabus in these three streams, the department has not able to finalise it. As a result, college authorities have provided old syllabus to the students whose classes have already started.

CHSE chairman Prof Basudev Chhatoi said since it is not possible to change the syllabus in all 31 subjects in Arts, Science and Commerce in one go, it has been decided to go for a change only in the Science curriculum from the current academic year.

“The new syllabus for Science has been prepared in line with the CBSE syllabus on the basis of the report of the syllabus preparation committee. The committee will finalise the syllabus at its next meeting on August 5. The Council will upload it on its website www.chseodisha.nic.in from where the students can download the revised syllabus, in 10-15 days”, Prof Chhatoi told the media.

A senior CHSE official said the new syllabus for the Plus Two streams could not be finalised due to the delay in the formation of the syllabus preparation committee.

“The committee, after its formation, could not have regular meetings to finalise the new syllabus. Although the new syllabus have been prepared with the help of senior professors, there was an inordinate delay in the final approval for which they could not be introduced this year,” he explained.
