Central BJP team arrives in Odisha to probe gang rape

Bhubaneswar: A three-member committee of the BJP arrived here on Saturday to probe an alleged gang rape of a minor tribal girl by security personnel in Koraput district.

The team, formed by Bharatiya Janata Party’s National President Amit Shah, is led by party National General Secretary Saroj Pandey.

It also comprises Lok Sabha members Jyoti Dhurve and Anju Bala. They will visit Kunduli and submit a report to Shah.

“The state government has no right to continue in office for being insensitive towards the women in the state,” said Pandey.

Dhurve said there should be a Central Bureau of Investigation inquiry in this case.

“The minor girl should get justice and action should be taken against those who have failed in their duty. The state government is trying to cover up the whole episode. At one time, it is said that there was rape and at other time, the report says that there was no rape at all.”

The minor girl of Musaguda in Koraput district — who alleged rape by four security personnel on October last year — committed suicide on January 22 after being denied justice, triggering state-wide resentment. (IANS)
